About
The arcHIVE (or HIVE, as it is commonly known) is the National Archives of Australia’s online transcription portal. It lets volunteers transcribe the titles of records from
digitised item/consignment lists including the titles of migration, post office and audiovisual records.
The website gives everyone the chance to help describe items in the collection which are not easily identified and
accessed because they are not listed on our online collection database, RecordSearch.
Since arcHIVE was launched in 2012, over 1 million record titles have been transcribed by our volunteers and added to RecordSearch.
